Action are honoured to have received the ‘Best Partnership’ award at the annual Empty Homes Conference last week through the Empty Homes Network (EHN). The award was given to Action and Bolsover District Council (BDC) in recognition of the work that we have done to reduce the number of empty homes in the community and provide affordable housing.
The Empty Homes Network is the successor to the National Association of Empty Property Practitioners (NAEPP). NAEPP was established in 2001 to offer support to those working to reduce the number of empty properties throughout the country. It was launched by empty property practitioners with the support of government ministers the former Housing Corporation and the Empty Homes Agency.
Action and Bolsover District Council’s award comes after the renovation of the Station Hotel was completed earlier this year, transforming a disused hotel and pub into 15 stylish flats in the heart of the community. The project was completed as part of a partnership between Action and Bolsover District Council and made possible thanks to a Homes England Grant.
Action CEO, Ty Platten spoke of the significance of the award, stating that ‘We are very proud to have received recognition for the outstanding work that both Action and Bolsover District Council have achieved in reducing the number of empty homes within the community. The success of the Station Hotel renovation speaks for itself in that we have provided 15 affordable flats in a previously disused building, to win this award on top of that is excellent.’
All 15 contemporary flats have since been rented out at an affordable price, meaning that the empty building that stood in the heart of Creswell Village for over 12 years has been given a new lease of life and brought back in to use, much to the delight of the local community. This was undoubtedly a huge project for everyone involved, so to receive the recognition in the form of this award means a great deal to everyone at Action and our colleagues at BDC. Well done to all involved!
